Yesssss. California has opened me to the pull of succulents. <3 Beautiful illustration! I love the fresh, bright light and the greens. Love the dirt and just the warm, earthy feel. <3

This is a jolly picture. His appearance is too anime for me. Not that I have anything against anime or anime style, but in this situation, considering the rest of the picture, I think more realism is called for.

Why don't you want anyone reposting it? Supposing they link it back to you and give you credit. That just means more people see it. Copying is an act of love, not hate.

thanks! (: My style leans more towards anime in general, since that is what i have been doing for so long, and for this case, I wanted the clear distinction of the anime figure vs the plants which are painted differently. It's something im trying out.

I have all the other social media accounts on fb, tumblr, twitter etc where i post my art, so i would rather people reblog from there than repost. And sometimes, people do not put credit, either way. thanks for all your input, though!

I like how I can actually recognize some of the plants here. The one in his hands I often see nicknamed "jellybeans" for obvious reasons (granted the jellybean succulent has smaller leaves, so this one could be different) I got a bunch like it in yellow/orange bordering my own cactus/succulent garden (started out with one, they take so easily from cuttings though and now I have dozens of them in a row, closing off the outer edge of the desert-patch =p) I also recognize the zebra plant behind his head too (used to have one =p)

Funny story though - succulents used to freak me out as a kid, I thought they were slimy or meaty for some reason, like land-equivalents of corals/anemones and didn't want to touch them at all. Clearly I got over that

HAHAA i can totally understand your fear xD they don't look quite as natural as other plant life, i suppose! :P there are even weirder plants out there, some look like pebbles even, LOL.. ohhh man i'm jealous of your little garden right now hahaha x'D no matter how hardy those plants are, i might still kill them bc well, thats me HAHA

Haha, yeah - even now when I think of ideas for alien plant life on other worlds - succulent-like forms are usually first in line to be exaggerated upon :D

I suppose climate has a lot to do with it, succulents seem to thrive here with relatively little effort, and I've made more of them via cuttings too :dummy:

It depends, some cuttings can be grown from a single leaf, while others generally work better by taking a whole rosette off at the stem (this is more effective, but it does require taking more off the parent plant, but hey - it'll grow back where it was cut, often with multiple heads) unlike most other plant types where cuttings should be planted as soon as possible - succulents need some time for the cut end to dry up and callus a little (prevents them from rotting) this can be anywhere from a day or two for smaller pieces to a week or more for larger ones before they can be planted (ideally in controlled conditions until they form roots, going straight in the ground is OK, but if they get waterlogged before they form roots they could die) usually I just stick my cuttings straight back into the garden after their dry-out time as I have enough now that losing some is no big deal anymore anyway, not that it ever happens since the spot with all the succulents never gets too wet anyway :phew:
